The PCFX is a quite obscure system, and so are the few games on it. I happen to own one though, and used to be quite fascinated with it. Developed by the now defunct RayForce, which gave us Startling Odyssey and Star Breaker on the PC Engine, Miraculum is a nice little RPG. It doesn’t shine by much aspects and I didn’t play far into the game, but the few nice tunes I heard while playing made me want to hear more. Sadly, the game has no redbook tracks.

I recently stumbled on a thread on one of the few PCFX dedicated forums on the web where Mednafen offered ogg recordings of the ADCPM rips he did of the game. I promptly grabbed them and was pleasantly surprised with what I heard. The rocking battle themes are especially enjoyable, with a very Iwadare feel. Watching the end credits on nico revealed that a certain Kenji Ikeda was responsible for them.

The sound isn’t perfect, as Mednafen himself said his ADCPM rips weren’t completely accurate. I mailed him about a way to enhance this, but he has yet to answer. So, this is as good as it gets ~

Many thanks to Mednafen again, and enjoy !

Dualtrax’s website has been down for a while, and it’s sad, so I decided to share the mp3s I did from the .xm files he used to have hosted there. You’ll find keygen music in there, as well as many other bouncy chiptunes. I left the filenames formatting and structures as close to the original archives as possible. Thought it was more in the spirit. :3

Yuzo Koshiro, Mieko Ishikawa and a few others scored this game, and it was a great success.

So much that Falcom decided to release additional scenarios to the game. This time, Mieko Ishikawa did all the music by herself. You can find some arrange versions of her work on Sorcerian Super Arrange Vol.2 and Vol.3. Those are actually the only official releases you’ll find music from those titles on.

And there come those PC88VA game recordings I found on Share years ago. In this first archive, you’ll find music from Sorcerian Additional Scenario Vol.1, Vol.2 AKA Sengoku Sorcerian and Vol.3 AKA Pyramid Sorcerian. It’s full of pretty rawking Mieko Ishikawa chiptunes, so I hope you’ll enjoy them ~

I was very surprised to notice the music was that good when I launched it again a couple years ago. The music was composed by Alberto Jose Gonzalez, who’s starting to get some recognition in a number of chiptune niches. The style of Mr. Gonzalez is definitely typical of the European VGM scene, and I would even say some of the structures and melodies of his songs make me think of European medieval compositions (while remaining catchy as hell). I definitely need to rip more of his Game Boy works.

The best track (to me?) in this rip is obviously the insanely epic BGM 09 which was, I think, played on the sled stage. The Nes and Master System ports are neat as well, but the Game Boy version is definitely the most powerful. Maybe I’ll upload those as well later ~

Anyway, enjoy !

The nearest Arcade Machine near my home was Toki, also know as Juju Densetsu in Japan.
I loved this game even if it was very difficult to me.
Years later, I trie Toki on Megadrive/Genesis but this version is far away from the Arcade version (too far, crap I mean).
I now will take my revenge on this game, buying the Jamma version for my beautiful New Astro City! ^^
Musics are from Yukihiko Kitahara for the Jamma version, the Megadrive version was adapted by Pierre-Eric Loriaux from Ocean French team and he make a great job, but it’s not exactly the same taste to me.

Hope you enjoy this piece of my childhood memory .
