It regained some ground having 400 members in 1887, there afterwards it continued to decline with 456 in 1891, 257 in 1892 and 223 in 1893. Its membership further declined in 1894 to 117. The secretary from 1893 to 1896 was Peter Milne, 8 Burn Lane, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. Unable to stem the declining membership in 1895 it amalgamated with the Perth based Scottish Ploughmen’s Federal Union to form the Scottish Ploughmen and General Labourers Union. It was strong in the county towns but weak in the rural areas.
