The heart of the process is a paper-making machine called a Fourdrinier after the original makers. It's about 100 metres long, a moving belt with 500 meshes to every square centimetre, designed to sieve out water from the wet web of pulp fibres. After some of the water is removed, the paper goes through a maze of rollers, first to press more water out and give a uniform surface and secondly to dry out completely. The other is to cook the wood chips with chemicals, thus dissolving the lignin which cements the wood fibres together.
