And they argue that critiques of social practices and institutions must always derive from, and make sense within, the contexts in which people actually live, and not be imposed by others from without. Those who take issue with liberalism’s pluralism, on the other hand, argue that it collapses into a relativism that masquerades as cultural sensitivity and toleration, but in fact it leaves us impotent to criticize atrocity.
