By Sardul S. Guraya
In 1954, whilst I received my B. Sc. (Honours university) measure in Zoology, i used to be requested through my consultant, the overdue Professor Vishwa Nath, to make comparative cytological reviews of oogenesis in birds for my M. Sc. (Honours tuition) thesis submitted to the Panjab collage in 1956. utilizing the classical strategies of cytology, I studied many of the points of follicle development and atresia in 5 species of birds. Professor Vishwa Nath, who himself dedicated so much of his lifestyles to the learn of the comparative cytology of gametogenesis in animals, used to be quite a bit inspired by means of my findings on avian oogenesis that he requested me to proceed my learn paintings for the Ph. D. measure lower than his supervision. in the course of my learn paintings on avian oogenesis, I turned a great deal drawn to additional comparative learn of ovarian follicles in vertebrates and therefore determined to make comparative, morphological and histochemical experiences of ovarian follicles in reptiles, birds and mammals. really, little or no details was once on hand during this regard in 1957 while i began operating for the Ph. D. measure. In next years, I and my a variety of committed and hugely inspired M. Sc. and Ph. D. scholars conĀ tinued to make comparative, morphological, histochemical, biochemical and physiological stories of ovarian follicles in all teams of vertebrates. In reference to the topic of this publication, i need to make unique point out of my incredible scholars, particularly Dr. S. okay. Varma and Dr. R. K.

This quantity of the treatise offers with structural features of the cytoskeleton: the features of the filaments and their elements; the association of the genes; motor proteins; interactions with membranes.
First published in 1983, this e-book matters the comparative physiological variations of vertebrate animals, specially mammals, to cessation of respiring. those diversifications have been initially pointed out in species dwelling in aquatic habitats. The argument is gifted that the usual divers show a well-developed and very easily studied instance of a extra normal defence opposed to asphyxia.

The increase of nucleolar volume has been attributed to the development of vacuoles (Fig. 3). The granular cords are believed to be involved in the rapid release of many ribosomal precursors which are seen in the nucleoplasm (Fig. 3). A nuclear fibrillar area composed of proteins has been distinguished in the oocyte nucleus as well as in the nucleus of pyriform follicle cells in several species of lizards (Hubert 1970b, 1975c). It shows many similarities with the nuclear vacuole, "paranucleolar vacuole" or 24 Fig.
Studies, carried out with electron microscope, histochemical and biochemical techniques, will greatly increase our knowledge about the physiology of oocyte growth in reptiles. 3 Cortical Granules The growing oocytes of different groups of reptiles have been relatively inadequately studied for the development, distribution, chemistry and function of cortical granules. However, Guraya (1969a) has reported the development, distribution and histochemical nature of cortical granules in the growing oocytes of two species of Indian lizards (Hemidactylus f/aviviridis and Uromastix hardwickil).
Further studies on embryonic ovaries after treatment with hormones are needed to determine their roles in oogonial proliferation, oogenesis and folliculogenesis in birds. The presence and nature of intraovarian factor(s), which may be regulating these processes, must also be determined in future studies. From responsiveness to gonadotrophin and metabolism of tritiated progesterone, ovarian steroidogenesis has been studied in vitro during the first month posthatching in the domestic chick (Marrone 1986).
