Technology makes it cheaper and easier to create and sell music. , call themselves one—but running it successfully is what strikes most people out of the ballgame. It takes work and perseverance, GREAT MUSIC, money, and patience to stay in the race. Have I hammered in the impression that it’s not easy? Sorry—you’ll have to work your butt off to succeed. But, when all the pieces are in place, opening your own record label can be a very satisfying endeavor. This book was hard to write. My readers’ needs vary.
According to Jeff Price: Major labels need to have grand-slam home runs, or a record is deemed a failure. The definition of success for independents varies, depending on how big or small the act is.
