Cave 4. In August, Bedouin explorers made a momentous discovery: Cave 4 at Qumran—which contained the remnants of well over 700 scrolls. They reportedly were alerted to the cave by an older tribesman, who recalled as a young lad chasing a partridge into a cavity that turned out to be the opening of a cave near Khirbet Qumran. Several youths, he remembered, had entered it and found pottery and other objects.
